My dad Jim Kirkby worked there too. I remember hearing him, Glen Hudon, and Dave Timerman talking about it growing up. Thanks for the website, now MY kids can see a little bit of local and family history.

Hi-- Dan O'Neil hired me as the Indian at A-Town from 1958-61. I robbed the train and coach and took part in street acts and rodeos. Was sheriff there in last year. I knew all the guys and gals mentioned above. Gordie Peer lives in Kissimee, FL. I've reconnected with him in the past few years. There were tragedies that happened there, too, among the emplolyees, but mostly lots of great memories. I've wondered about my old cowboy friends and where they all are today. Knew Timmerman and Getman (locals) and all the Florida guys--Lonnie, Pecos, Bruce, Jack McDade (who married Helen's sister, I think). What a time and place it was! Nice job on this web site!

I'm the oldest son of Danny O'Neil the sheriff/manager. Certainly my father's involvement with Adventure Town had to be some of the best time of his life. Growing up I heard lots of stories of his time there. When my father based away in 1993 my brother and I spread his ashes on the land that once was Adventure Town. I am in posession of hundreds of photographs and assorted souveniors from A/T. I would like to make this material available to your site by sending you scanned images if you are willing to post. I hope to hear back from you soon. Tks, Dan

Oh yes, I remember it well! I was the cashier in the entry building. Gave out silver dollars in change. This was my first full-time job right out of high school the summer of 1955. Loved it! I ate my lunch on the docks at Edgewood many days.

I was fortunate to be able to go to Adventure Town quite often. My father was Danny O'Neil, who was the manager there. I even got pulled out of school one afternoon to appear in a clip with Channel 7's Danny Burgess and my dad on the paddle wheel boat. I remember Helen House and was there the day they gave her the horse. Those were the good old days.....

My mom talks about this place , And says they should have something like it again . The bay needs something exciting during the daytime for friends and families to enjoy.

This sure was a great walk down memory lane when I came across this site. I was Nancy Allen and was friends with Judy Hebert and Marg Clark. My Dad was Keith Allen and he painted much of Adventure Town and Edgewood. My uncle was Maurice "Satch" Kavanaugh who did the signs, Big and Small for A-town. We have always wondered what happened to the awesome picture he painted of the stallion horse fight that hung over the bar of the Saloon. Do any of you remember that?
As kids we worshiped all the cowboys and my cousin Barb Hinman Handschuh taught us how to ride and care for horses. I remember Gordie P, Glen H, and old Charlie Harrison. Those were great years to grow up in Alex Bay.

Went there many summers with my sisters, loved it. The stage coach was awesome and train robbery scared the day lights out of us. I had 6 shooters from there at one time and at least one of my sisters a cork pop gun, long gone, but we played cowboys and indians a great deal summers in the Lake of the Isles. Were soundly reprimanded for tying one sister to a tree and leaving her wailing...........oops........Love the memories. Thank you so very much!

Hi Glenn,
Enjoyed pictures and comments. Looking forward to more of the same. Wished we could all get together again like we did at Edgewood when Danny O'Neil came back. Sure would like to know where John Church is. He and I worked together in 1957 and spent the next winter in Phoenix, AZ. If anyone knows where John Church is, please send me an email. Thanks.

Gordie.. wow, that's really interesting. I'd love to read about it all, but no matter how much I search that site I just can not find the information you speak of. Any chance you could provide some URL's or info on how to see the information. Thx..

I worked at Adenvture Town for some time as a 20-year-old and have written often in my newspaper column about those experiences--riding bulls in the rodeo, riding the train daily, the fabulous park opening each morning while firing shot guns from the thundering stage coach, getting shot everyday in the "High Noon" re-enactment, meeting kids and the parents from all over the world. It was the best.
I have done TV interviews with the late Arto Monaco who designed Adventure Town and all of the theme parks in the region. He related how he arranged for purchase of the first stage coach and showed me many of the original designs. I have memorabilia from those terrific times, including my own press photo.
Thanks so much for the memories and keep up the good work.
You can access my column at pressrepublican.com.
