SAM'S CLUB SCREWED ME OVER !! (RESOLVED) - Wednesday, October 03, 2007 at 5:16:09 PM

Ok, so I just got home from Sam's Club and I am pretty upset with them.

Here is what happened...

Earlier this summer I went there and while checking out I couldn't find my new Sam's Club card so I handed them an older one that I found in my truck before I went in. To my surprise they tell me account is not valid and make me pay
$35.00 to renew my membership. This all happened right there at the checkout. I just figured my dad didn't pay for my account or something as I am on his Williams Sunoco account.

A week later I went back with that same old card and they tell me again it isn't valid and I need to pay them another $35.00 to check out with it. I told them no, left my stuff there, and walked out the door. I was starting to get really annoyed.

Couple weeks later and find my new card and decide to give that a try. I checkout no problem with it.

A month later I decide to go straighten this out. I talk to a lady at the customer service desk. She looks the things up in the computer and tells me I paid on my old account number that day and I shouldn't have because I have a new account number that is valid and paid for. She says it was all a big mistake. She says please bring the receipt to show you paid on the old card and we will refund your money. I say ok, but I will have look for it. I look for it all day and can't find it.

So, today I finally run across the receipt. I decide to make a trip to Watertown specifically to finally take care of this. From the get go the lady at customer service looks at me like I am trying to pull something over on her. I explain everything and she basically looks at me like I am making it all up. I ask here to please look the account numbers up in the computer and figure this out. She tells me that the card I paid 35.00 on belongs to Mary Lou Williams. I explain to her that she is wrong and Mary Lou hasn't been on the Williams Sunoco account for many years. The card I paid with that day had my name on it and my picture and I had it for over 7 years. She continues to argue with me and treat me like I am trying to scam her. She insists I didn't pay on my own account, but on Mary Lou's card? Now, how hard is it to look up and old account number and see my name is on it and more importantly wouldn't I come up with something better than this if I was trying to pull a scam??

Long story short I handed her my new card and told her Sam's Club will not be getting any more business from me. I was actually fairly well behaved during the whole deal, but if I stayed there any longer the steam would have come out of my ears.

After I left the building I called my Aunt Mary Lou to check if she even had a card under Williams Sunoco and she said she might of 6 or more years ago. She says now she has a card through the Alexandria Bay Village Offices where she works.

The bottom line is it's really the principle of the whole thing.
As far as I am concerned..

THEY STOLD $35.00 FROM ME !!, THEY REFUSE TO GIVE IT BACK !!.

SAM'S CLUB CAN KISS MY BUSINESS GOOD BYE !! I HAVE PROBABLY SPENT $15,000 THERE IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS. THEY WON'T GET ANOTHER DIME FROM ME UNLESS THEY DO THE RIGHT THING AND TAKE CARE OF THIS.

IT'S KINDA LIKE WHEN YOU GET SCREWED AT THE WINDOW BUT DIFFERENT. IT PISSES YOU THE HELL OFF !!

SO SAM'S CLUB.. IT'S JUST LIKE YOUR LOGO SAYS "IT'S A BIG DEAL" !!

THE RECEIPT IS BELOW.

UPDATE: This has been resolved.

Some people at Sam's Club actually got word of this. They actually had a printout of this news item from Abay.com at the store.

They apologized and said they are very sorry all of this happened. They said they couldn't believe that the person at the customer service counter didn't sort this out as it was quite obvious what happened. The $35.00 has been returned and that's good enough for me.

Sam's Club did the right thing once someone with a brain got word of this.

Well, obviously you have a pretty big voice because it didn't take very long for them to get word of this. I bet they scrambled like headless chickens to take care of this when they found out how many people were seeing it.

Sorry for your problem, but thanks for clarifying one of life's great mysteries...which came first the chicken or the egg?
Well according to your receipt it was the eggs then the chicken and finally the chicken tenders.
I'll get me coat..........

It seems to me like you had more than enough evidence with that receipt. They should have refunded you and apologized. I don't blame you for being pissed with them. If it makes you feel any better I won't be doing any shopping there anymore either.

Just don't shop there. There's a ton of stores in the area that will actually bag your stuff for you.

Write a complaint to the Better Business Bureau (my personal favorite) worked for me against AOL! Don't let corporate win....it's the principle behind it!

Sam's gave me a going over a few years ago..I wrote the manager with the facts and got an apology and $50 gift certificate.
This year they made another mistake with me and I wrote Andrew Fossica (manager) and got results again...alas, no gift certificate this time, but he said to stop in and ask for him and we'ed eat a couple of those Roasted chickens!
$35-40 a year, to walk in the door, not a good deal unless you spend millions there.

Doesn't surprise me one but. Seems like you get screwed by some business every day. If it isn't the cell phone companies it is places like Sam's Club.

Next time you're in WT give it one more shot. If they give you a problem tell them your going right down to file a small claims case and you'll subpoena the records. Of course you should actually be willing to follow through. Believe me, they are not going to relish the idea of spending an evening in court and producing their records.
Obviously it's a losing proposition for you to go to court but it's unlikely you'd have to, and it may be worth it on principle alone.
