Alex Bay Native Jack Sweet Killed In Iraq
Posted Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 5:11:34 PM       Abay.com - Alexandria Bay, NY 1000 Islands Region

I held off putting anything up about this but it is now time.

I talked to members of law enforcement today, I know all the family has been notified, I know it is ok to put this up, and it is time to make a terrible annoucement.

Jack Sweet, a 19 year old from Alexandria Bay, NY has lost his life over in IRAQ.
I do know it was a roadside bomb or some sort of explosive.

I am told he was a bit of a wild kid back in the day, but that he pulled a total 180 with his life and was doing great. Then this happens.

I will have more information as it is available.

A Moment of Silence (Video)
Some of us got a chance to take a moment for Jack..

Thinking of him,
Poor Jack Sweet.
The kindest kid
anyone could ever meet.
Small town kid,
grew up to be a Soldier
Everyone so happy,
he's finally making a difference.
Friday Night and all was nice
They came the next morning Jack was gone.
A small town hurting
Their Hero's soul is gone.
He was still a child
He was like No Other
Little Jack Sweet
Is dearly missed
Can't remember,
the last time he was so happy.
Until that day
He joined the Army
We remember his laughter
We remember his smile.
Most of All,
We remember him as
A Home Town Hero.
For A Lost friend and a Fallen Hero!

Jack, Go Rest High on that mountain now with God... Your work here on Earth is done. Go to Heaven and Shout it before the Father and the Son. You will be missed and forever in our hearts. Don't worry about the family they will make it through this difficult time. I only wish that you didnt go away so soon. Didnt even get to know you well again. But we are all so very proud of you and what you have stood for. You are truely an angel in diguise. Even if you were only the white kid who couldn't get dirty... lol. My heart weighs heavy for you have left us ohh sooo young. You still had a hole life ahead of you. We will look at the stars each night and know that one of them is you looking down on each of us from heaven, the place that you belong. Hey man tell Grandmama hi for me, and that i love her.
You will forever be:
In our hearts . . .
In our minds . . .
In our souls . . .
In our prayers...
Save for them a place
Inside of you,
And save one backward glance
When you are leaving,
For the places they can no longer go,
Be not ashamed to say
You loved them,
Though you may or
May not always have,
Take what they have left
And what they have taught you
With their dying
And keep it with your own,
And in that time
When men decide, and feel safe,
To call the war insane,
Take one moment to embrace
Those gentle heroes
You left behind.
Remember Jack that you are an angel, so spread your wings and fly. We will all be with you once again in due time. Until then you are truely loved and missed and it has only been 4 days. Rest In Peace Jack. I Love You...

Many people wonder why would someone put themselves in harms way for someone else? Is it Patriotism, Honor, Duty,Courage, or simply because they were asked? For Jack, i believe the answer is " All of the above". Jack and my son John Michael were best friends since the 2nd grade and since then Jack was like a 3rd son in our house. Those 2 boys had some great times together.....and yes they got in trouble together too. I think thats why Jack liked coming over so much, he knew he wouldnt get any special treatment , he was one of the boys.....he was one of my boys. And when the day came that Jack came and said he joining the Military......He was so proud he had passed his ASFAB. I sat him down in front of the computer and showed all the different jobs in the army he could do....please don't pick the infantry ( i swear to you Glenn i did ).Well that didn't work, he said," John, I want to defend my country. At this point I thought maybe I could scare him with stories of my past.... NOPE!!! Talk about bull headed. So I did the only thing I could do now, I gave him a hug and my blessing. When I saw him in Sept. 07 and he said he was going over seas I saw the look in his eyes and the grin on his face, He looked some one just let the Lion out of his cage and told him to hunt. And now this ...Again I will say I am proud to have known you Jack, Thank you for facing the fears of a nation,Thank you for staring Terrorism in the face with the " Jack Sweet Grin " in return. Thank you for bringing years of joy into our lives. You will be remebered as a hero, a friend,a son.....................GOD BLESS YOU JACK

Glenn and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. I remember Jack while I was elementary secretary at ACS for 21 years. He had his difficult times as alot of young people do, but then they do find their way and become young men like Jack. We have lost so many men and women in this war, but when it comes to someone you know, it really is hitting too close to home.
God Bless you all and Jack will certainly be remembered.
Peace
Debra Arquitt

Glen and Family, we are so saddened to hear about Jack we missed seeing him grow up, remembering him as a child we see he grew up to be a great young man. A true Amercian patriot, not a suprise knowing he came from a good family and a great loving Dad. Your's and Jack's sacrifice is total and will never be forgotten. May God comfort your soul.

Jack even though you moved on to other things, you will always be considered a member of the ACS Class of 2007. I met Jack when he was in 5th grade, he was quite a character. He was always quick with a smile and so intelligent. You will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Sweet family. Jack sat in my seventh grade classroom with that little grin on his face that always made me wonder what was really on his mind. He used to brighten my day just by being himself. God Bless Jack Sweet and give strength to his family.

I had always thought a lot of Jack - he was always very polite and courteous in every interaction I had with him. He had wanted to join the military for as long as I knew him and I was really proud that he turned his life around. We are all very saddened to hear of this news. Our community needs to come together and show our support and how much we care when he is brought home on Tuesday or Wednesday. We need to line the streets with flags to show how much we care. I know this community can do it. Jack you are forever a hero. Everyone will miss you and you will not be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family and friends. R.I.P. Jack. 2/8/08.

Glen & Family...Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We knew Jack in his younger days as he rode the ACS busses. He was always very polite to us. You can be proud of what he accomplished in a short period of time and he died honorably defending our Country. He is now standing guard at the gates of Heaven. God be with you.
