A Hero's Farewell ! - Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:32:20 PM

Today we said farewell to Jack Sweet..

I'd just like to say that I was not planning on covering today’s event. The truth is that I'm am not very good with things like this. I don't like invading on people's privacy. I don't like interviewing people about serious subjects. Most importantly I just don't feel right about being at a cemetery with a video camera. I'd say that makes me a pretty bad reporter.

I was however convinced by many that it was the right thing to do. I did my best to keep my distance and only tape a few key moments while at the ceremony. I truly hope this is all fine with the family. If not I hope they know that all they have to do is contact me if they have any issues with anything on this page.

I didnt know jack that well, Being a resident from the alexandria bay area and a member of the military service. Our hearts and prayers go out to the sweet family. Noone actually knows what a family goes threw when a loved one is deployed. My husband is currently serving and he tells me time and time, he doesnt want to do another deployment..When I heard about Jack and him being from my home town, it sent chills threw my body..

I didnt know him very well, but still he is family. A cousin is all he was, but still missed so dearly. I dont know if this bothers me so because he was family or just because he was so young, or maybe just cause i did know him. I dont know the meaning behind, but still to read this stuff and to really stop and think about it, it hurts alot. My prayers and thoughts are with the rest of the family always and forever. I wish this thing called war that they all think that we need to have.. i wish to god it was gone, and never existed at all.. why cant we all just learn to love one another. and have peace in the world again. why do the young have to be taken, from their families??? I am so sorry.... He lived a great life though so i am told.. he had many friends that he loved to be with, and whom loved to be with him.. I only wish his family down here in Texas could have gotten to know him better, before tragedy had to bare it ugly head.. Jack you are forever loved and missed.. Hold your head high, for we will all do the same, even through the pain and tears. we will lift your name on high. Blessed Be with the Lord you are, an Angel has his wings.. I Love You Jack, dont ever forget all of those who love you so dear..

Our love and prayers are with Jack and his family today. Jack was a true hero, and we are all so proud of his serving our country so that we can remain free. Thank you Jack.
When my father died a friend sent this to me. I hope that it brings comfort to Jack's family as they mourn his passing. Good Bless all of you.
SAFELY HOME
I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! But Jesus love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earths shadows,
Pray to trust our Fathers Will.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth
You shall rest in Jesus land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

This was very touching to all our hearts. We heard of the young men on the news each night that have lost their lives at such a young age, but when it is in your own home town. we all know now what these famlies are all going through. It hurts and I hope it stops soon we do not need to lose anymore young men over there.

I think you have done a respectable thing by covering this week's unfortunate events. It may help the Sweet family to see how proud our community is of Jack. Know him or not, being from ABay is something that is a special part of all of us. Kind of makes you that we are part of one big family when something like this happens.I think it was said best during Thursday's motorcade, I heard someone say, " I'm sorry for the reason we're here, but at the same time glad to be here to welcome Jack home".

With 9 years military, and having lost a couple people who are veterans and hero's I think this was very tasteful, and allowed citizens who wanted to pay thier respects to do so. I think Private First Class Sweet would have been as proud of his rememberance, as he was proud to wear the uniform. To his family:
"I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine," He said.
"For you to love the while he lives and mourn when he is dead,
"It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
"But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
"He'll bring his charms to gladden you, but should his stay be brief,
"You'll have his lovely memories, as solace for your grief,
"I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
"But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
"I've looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true,
"And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes I have selected you.
"Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
"Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say: "Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
"For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness; we'll love him while we may,
And for happiness we've known forever grateful stay.
"But since the angels called for him much sooner than you had planned,
"We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand."

It is so unfortunate what has happened. I dont think anyone realize how horrible this truely is until it hits home. Until someone you love or know is tragically taken from us. I hope everyone truely appreciates the sacrifice that these brave men and women do for us so we can live free. God bless to all who serve. I thank you. Rest in peace Jack you have done your job, and now God needs you.
