The Amish Parked at Napa - Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 10:56:57 AM

I snapped these pictures of an Amish Buggy parked at the Alexandria Bay Napa.

I did not take pictures of the actual Amish, but in case anyone is wondering it was an older man and a very tiny boy and they both had on their trademark hats. The little boy was pretty cute in his little hat.

Norm Horner who works at the store told me that they come in regularly to get wheel bearing for their buggies.

In the modern world we live in I just thought this was a neat picture.

The coments re the Amish and how
great they are (I agree) and that we
could benefit if we took a page or
two from their "book" is a good idea.
Ha HA - a few days without TV, DVDS, iPODS, CELL PHONES etc,
etc, etc, we would have a bunch of
screaming meamies. As much as
I admire the Amish, I don't have what
it takes to live their life style. I'll buy
their good baked good at Farmer's
Market. I am concerned about the
horse in the picture. He didn't look
too good - is it the end of it's winter
coat or what? Don't know much
about horses.

i like to see the amish out working.i would rather plow a field or cut hay with a six hitch team of drafts then sit on some loud tractor fixing something on it every time it breaks.amish know the true meaning of hard work.

I live near many Amish and have also done business with them. My wife and I have found them to be honest and hard working. Don't try to do any business with them on a Sunday. They won't. It's Gods day.
It's funny to me that most of the comments here admire the Amish and think we could learn something from them. I do as well, however their way of living and goverment is based on the bible. Try to translate that to our way of living.
We can't pray in schools because of seperation of church, state and the courts help. We as a country, in the name of advancement, ban God from anything public while over 90% of people in the USA consider themselves Christians.
Now I do not want to be Amish. I want to be the American I am, with pride in what I say and do. We can admire the Amish in the way that they live, but give me a break, reach out to everytone.

The Amish are subject to taxes like the rest of us, as far as I know. They pay property taxes, and income taxes too. However, they deal in cash, so it might be hard to prove what they earn. They do not believe in debt. If they don't have the money for something they don't buy it. We could all learn from that.

Yes, these people are interesting, but why do they need not follow our laws, pay the same taxes, etc. The only thing they are not using is electricity. Some do use generators for farming purposes, and some do ride in vehicles for long distance trips. They feel they don't have to comply with building codes, and pay the necessary fees and fines for incompliance. In my opinion, they are no different than you or I. Go ahead and tell the govt. you don't need to pay taxes because of your religious belief and see how far it gets you! Isn't America supposed to be equal???, my god all the sex offenders and illegal aliens have more rights than us honest people!

With gas the way it is, think they would let me buy one of their horse and buggies off of them? I mean seriously. I live close enough to town.

There was an amish wedding today in the LaFargeville area. The number of "buggies" was amazing! It's so nice to hear them clip-clop by my house! Thanks to the person who took this pic for not violating their beliefs.

Last week, I drove to Lancaster and Bird In Hand Pennsylvania where I did some touristy stuff. The Amish farms were something to behold. Big, white, clean and it was such a delight to watch the little ones helping out with the horses, gardens and flowers. It was interesting to see the land being worked with 5 or 6 mules in front of a plow. We could learn a lot from these wonderful industrious people.

Atleast there saving on gas with a horse and buggy. I think more and more people should do that! kind of funny tho how its tied up to a NAPA sign. I find that ironic.

I bet ya that Amish People suffer less from depression anxiety strokes and so on as they are not exposed to all that c**p we see in the news daily. May God Bless them all!

I think it's awesome! I'd love to learn more about their past and their way of life other than what you read about in the paper.
