| I also remember when the streets were clean by the merchants and the local men would sit on the benches out in front of the places and visit in the morning. The smell of downtown was nice and clean. It was nice to see the workers at the stores clean the windows of the business's. You knew when it was summer, when all the islanders would stop by the uncle Sam corner on church and James street and talk to Ray Massey. It was the hot corner in town. You sure knew who was in town!!

When I grew up in Alex Bay business owners were always cleaning side walks (not into streets), windows sparkeled, etc. I love The Bay and it is very embarassing to see the junk put out in front of stores. I never saw that at Lake Placid. How about a door to cover up debris put in alley ways. Even if property is vacent the owner should maintain it. I was looking at the building where the Zone and Imdad have businesses - it could be made very attractive with a little fixing up. About time some thing is being done to the store on Market Street. These older buildings could be dangerous. Some have done a beautiful job with their property - the rest, you know who you are. Come on folks, show some pride and old fashioned elbow grease! Get out the hammer and nails, paint and brushes, brooms etc. and make downtown a place we can really be proud of.

| I am a taxpayer in the village as well as a year round resident. I see that there are some businesses that have really done a great job in cleaning up there business, remodeling, painting etc. However there are somethat have not done this and it really looks bad on the rest of the village. When some businesses just come in and turn their key in May to open and then in September turn their key and leave. Not doing anything to help bring more business or cleaning up etc. But you can bet they will be the ones you hear making the comments that are negative for our village. I understand that there are year round businesses that stay open and they too maynot be doing anything to upkeep their business like they should. My thought to that is give the staff a paint brush, cleaning supplies etc. in there down time and clean up folks. We are not like most villages, keep in mind, we are a tourist village in the "Heart of the Thousand Islands" we depend on outside people coming in. When this happens we should all benefit if everyone workes together. This includes, businesses, taxpayers and those that visit our village as well as those that live in our village via rentals etc. It all comes around in the long run.

has anyone asked a Village board member about this? Try to write a law with enough teeth to take care of every maintenance problem and watch the naysayers come out of the woodwork. Let's see some people supporting the board on these issues and maybe you would get a law which would help. In the meantime people who live in glass houses should be careful about throwing stones. | Obviously you don't get down into town at any of the prime times, not that that would matter to hooligans or kids of any age.
