Topic: Current Public Concerns @ Village Board Meetings Posted: Apr/01/2008 at 7:30am |
|
People need to listen for little remarks that will be made here & there. Board members will not talk at a meeting but their feelings get told if you listen. Try talking with village employees now and you can see they don't feel safe.
This is going to be a long spring & summer after a hard winter. Yesterday the law was out collecting more revenue for NYS on the routes near the village. I wonder if the Amish get a ticket if they don't wear a seat belt?

Maybe someone should design a "Amish Car" for use during the warm months. It would have the appearance of two horses & a buggy. The tail lights would have the appearance of lanterns. Place two horse heads on the hood. Cover the tires with something & paint horses. Drop the steering wheel down so it can't be seen. Then if a person forgot to get Hooked Up, they would not get a ticket for seat belt . Just think how much revenue NYS would lose? We would have to cover the tailpipe with something that looks like a tail.
Just think of the revenue NYS has lost because no one checks the horse's teeth & under the tail for pollution. Hey, they got people checking everything else in NYS.

sounds like a188431 got "nabbed". "Forgot to get hooked up? OK!!!!! Like i jumped out of a airplane and forgot to get hooked up to the parachute? Not like it is something new. Now if you were talking about the parking tickets given by" WJC" Is he certified? Also the tickets are not printed correctly yet the board allows them to still be issued.

Sorry, I did not be "nabbed. It upsets me when working people become targets for revenue collecting by NYS. As for parking tickets, Redwood is just as close as Alex Bay when it comes to buying a pizza or ice cream. I use Garlock Hardware, but Rt 37 is very good. As they say, money will spend anywhere. Sourwine Farm on Swan Hollow road is also great.
Later I was thinking of my good friend Critter. He should hire a team from the Amish with a covered wagon. At closing time load up the wagon, everyone would be under cover if it rains. Slap the horse to go home. Critter would have to figure a way to control the pollution problem and for the horse to pass a road test for eye sight, since the horse would be doing the driving. Once the horse knows where to find the bucket of oats, nothing to worry about until morning.

Well if you're not wearing a seatbelt thats just pure stupidity anyways, speeding likewise. So buckle up NY and save yourself some money!

Looks like we have a board meeting going on right now, I just drove by the village office and saw all of our town fathers vehicles. dose anyone know whats on the agenda? Is it open to the public? Wouldn't it be nice if the board would list special meetings on abay.com for us that can't afford a T.I. Sun ,if it is even advertised there.

They'd better check the legality. NYS says a meeting with a majority of the governing body is just that a meeting. They have to be public. If they want to go into executive session they still must open a public meeting first. The reasons for executive session are very specific. Public meetings must have notification to the public.
Last week on Thursday the Tug Hill Commission sponsored the 19th Annual Local Govt. Conference at JCC with many workshops discussing just such things as well as Ethics in Government. The village planning board was well represented. None of the elected individuals were there. All were invited.

I think when I went by tonite, if you read the sign out in front coming from Rte. 12 it said work session tonite at 5:30 or something similar to that. On the other side coming from school I think it said something about March 25th. Just caught the end of it as we went by in the dark.

This is what I intended for this topic
The first part of the board meetings are reserved for the public to voice personal concerns as they relate to the village of Alexandria Bay. Sometimes this part of the meeting can be very brief and boring or it can go on for 30 minutes or more and be heated and exciting [meeting on 2/12/09]. I am hoping this will be the place to share what you have heard during this part of the meeting, or offer clarification. Or just lurk and catch a glimpse of what went on at the most current meeting. Todays Current Public Concern could easily become a hot topic for debate in this Forum or a cause for you to actually go to a Board Meeting and maybe voice your own Concern or just go to a board meeting and stare at the trustees and the mayor to let them know you might care about what goes on in our Village
Can we please keep this topic on track.
Thank You
Next Board Meeting April 8th

I am not able to attend the board meetings due to my work schedule. The forum is a great place for myself and others that can not make the meetings to hear what is happening. I want to say thank you all that post info on the meetings.

SUMP PUMP SURVEY!!
Alot to report about Tonights Board Meeting. The Sump Pump and Sanitary Sewer issue is probably one that needs to be reported first. It is important that everyone understands what this Survey is all about. The Village needs to know the entire impact that sump pumps that are tied into the sanitary sewer have on the water treatment plant. Sump Pumps are NOT the only issue. Water in the form of rain or melting snow also infiltrates the sanitary sewar in some spots. This is being surveyed so that the Village can determine what needs to be done. After the survey is completed it will then be determined what needs to be done next.
Discharging water from your basement via sump pump on to the street is recognized as not the best solution because of icing conditions on the streets [during colder weather]. Now this is contray to what I posted in another Topic. At this time there will be no citations issued for having your sump pump tied into the sanitary sewer. However in the next water bill there will be a very brief survey.
I urge all of you to answer this survey honestly.
The survey will ask you something like this:
DO YOU OWN A SUMP PUMP YES NO
DOES IT DISCHARGE INTO THE STREET YES NO
IS IT TIED INTO THE SANITARY SEWER YES NO
Again I believe you should answer these questions honestly and return the completed survey promptly. Once the completed surveys are returned to the Village office it will be determined who responded and who did not. The ones not returning the survey will be contacted so that an onsight visit can be made. Either way it will be determined who has what. Ultimately water that does not need to be treated is a waste of resources which has a negative impact on the enviroment.
The village is determining what needs to be corrected in its sewer and storm drain infrastructure so that the Village is in compliance.
I have already in effect completed the survey for my house when I stated in the board meeting that my sump pump is hooked up to the sanitary sewer.
I will never ever tell any of you who told me how to hook it up 16 years ago

JEEZUM CROW.......... this discussion tweaked me
This was in the TI SUN April 2nd
Village trash collection sent out for bid:
Once the contract is awarded, the board may look into making more cuts in the Department of Public Works (DPW).
This got the attention of the CSEA Union representative who was at the meeting representing the men that operate the garbage truck.
Board members looked shocked when the Union Rep referred to the article. Board members stated that they had not said anything about layoffs. The quote from the TI SUN was brought to Board members attention again. That quote obviously upset the effected workers ( I have been in that situation)
That whole discussion like I said tweaked me, but this is what tweaked me more.
Trustee Burtch stated "I do not get the TI SUN it isn't worth it to me"
OMG
Check out the audio that JT will post a link to.

I am amazed that all the issues about the village that are discussed on this forum are the same issues discussed years ago: sump pumps (had one in my basement for 22 years on Second St., connected to the sewer system, the village is surrounded by water, attempted to stop it but couldn't, where would you like the water to go?), trash pick up (discussed by the board to hire private company ,didn't do to the uncertainity of it, imagine the increased cost with fuel prices as they are now, this can be controlled by the village to some extent). Casino Island was refurbished (not many village people at the time thought it was a good use of money, grant money or otherwise, not many liked the idea of the new village offices, fire & police depts. either, it was a new one or put about half a million into the old one on Church St due to its condition/ADA rules). Sidewalks, parking meters, main steet dancing (anyone remember Mr. Kent?), village justice, police chief, all discussed in the early to mid-90's. Things change but some how stay the same. It has been 10 years since I resigned from the board to move south.
If you have good people they will do the right thing for the majority.

The Chamber of Commerce:
They had a meeting last night! Here is the results of the meeting.
They took a vote regarding the double block dances and decided in that vote 7 to 5 not to have the doulble block dances. I think that it was wise of the COC to put it to a vote on their own turf.

River Run
The Vertical Outlaws presentation has been approved. Safety measures are in place. Everything from concrete barriers and a safe zone with another fence to create a buffer. Bleachers will also be provided for a seating capacity of 100 or so spectators.
All the board members seemed very excited about this event. Trustee Drake tried to make a point about the scheduling of this event at the same time as Abay HS graduation but I think his point got lost with his fellow board members and some residents at the meeting. Sorry Mr Drake but you lost me too. There was a further presentation that future events could be included and this excited everyone including board members too. Of course Mary Compeau could sell a ham sandwich to a pig and get away with it. Or an ice cream sandwich to an eskimo. Nice job Mary, you are a natural.
Sorry Steve!!

Here are the WTF comments of the night!
All the board members give their reports regarding their respective areas of responsibilities.
Trustee Burtch: We are looking for another man to take my old job at the park.
George, you can not say that! Believe it or not I am looking out for you!
Trustee Derrigo: To Roger Jobson "Roger can you pick up the trash and recycling in one day if you don't monkey around"
Bubba you can't say that either!
Trustee Drake: your very long report almost killed the Mayor and I thought my friend George was going to have a brain aneurism, He was holding his head as to keep it from bursting

Lastly
Most Improved Posture Award
Goes to Trustee Burtch.
I felt your pain George as you endured the other members reports. I did notice that you sat upright with your feet under you and you kept your fingers away from your belt loops.
Atta Boy George!!!!!
That is all for now. We can not have a winner every board meeting. Honorable mentions go to Mayor Robb for showing up even tho he looked like he was suffering from a huge head cold and Trustee Sweet, for finally making eye contact with me!
All in all this was one of your better meetings guys.
I almost did give George a Kiss
