BJ - I'm interested in helping with the painting if you need mid June...I'll look ya up.  Pirates perhaps? Mock Building with viewers looking out?  High School has quite a lot of talent there - how about community service project with Art Teacher.............Wall Murals are terrific and can in and of itself become a draw to the community.

Before the meeting tonight let's review the current status of the village web site.

http://villageofalexandriabay.org/index.html

The golf course link on the home page still gives an error..

The village officials page hasn't been updated with the new Provisional Police Chief info..

There are no pictures of any of the projects going on in the village..

How about some pictures of the municipal building, the board members, and the new chief?

How about some videos ? Why not a video message from our Mayor welcoming people to the site or one from the new chief ?

etc etc etc...

After my rant [in another topic] about overflowing downtown garbage cans over the memorial day weekend.  I decided to take this concern to the VB tonight.  I expressed my concern that the garbage could be more closely monitored on the busier nights during the summer.  My concern was well recieved by the VB and Roger.  Thanks guys.

At the previous VB meeting on May 8th, BJ Mosher mentioned the gigantic Parking sign at the end of Church street. The sign is in front of the B&B bed and breakfast. She mentioned that she thought the sign was too large and not very nice to look at.  Considering that you can read it from Plessis, I have to agree.  There was some discussion about how the sign got to be there and all the parties were in agreement to the sign and its size.............. as it turns out at tonights meeting,  not everyone was in aggreement about the size and placement of that sign.............. more to follow...........

As it turns out, the sign that is there now is larger than the one that was attached to the old building that was torn down several years ago.  The sign was put up by Ron Thomson and it advertises Village long term parking.  There was a long discussion between the VB and the owners of the B&B.  As it turns out the owners of the B&B were not in aggreement nor consulted when the new sign was put up.  This was a lengthy discussion and I can not do it justice.  But I will give you a spoiler to the ending.  I think it was a tie between Trustee Derrigo and Mayor Robb coming up with this idea at the same time and the others on the board following suit.  It has a very happy ending.  Again.............. Nice Job VB ya did good on that one too.

There was a discussion between the owner of the B&B, Sam and trustee Burtch.  Sam made the comment that the sign was not very aesthetic.  George made a reference to his old english teacher saying that he must of missed school the day they talked about assteticks, as George pronounced it.

Here is the definition of aesthetics
a particular taste for or approach to what is pleasing to the senses and especially sight.

George also proclaimed himself the moron of the Village Board.

Roger Jobson has ordered 12 more ornate trash receptacles for the downtown area.  I gather that one or two will be placed between the downtown area and the Village park.  Sounds like a plan to me.

Sandwich Boards..............

If any business has them, they can not be on the Village sidewalks.  If you have them on your property you are all set.

Well, it doesn't magically record itself and put itself up on the web site.. it takes a little time.. it will be up soon as it usually is after a meeting

Sorry about that.  I assumed that everyone would wait for the post from Dotster saying that the audio is ready.

I really do not have to much else to post.  Not alot on the VB agenda or the public concerns.  There was some old business that was not to earth shattering.  And my stomach started growling just as the new business got started.  Mrs pguston had dinner cooking and I did not want to be late.

Question: if the business can't have a sandwich board on its side walk because it is the villages, why don't the village take care of their side walk repair? because it belongs to the village?  I remember sandwich boards at the islander, summer place, dockside, heads and tails, uncle sams, paul boat line, alexander's rag time, pearls dept. store, etc.  All back in the late 70's,  I don't remember anyone getting hurt over them.  Why do we need more rules?  Don't you think these business are having a tuff enough time making it with out a bunch of new rules.  How about the farmers market, the legion, the fire dept. chicken barb., I think its time they just help everyone out instead of picking on them.

It would be a great fund raiser.  I have a twist on it tho.  I think we should see who would raise more money in the dunking booth, the Vb or some posters from this Forum.  What do ya think?  I think George would spend some coin on yours truly.......

I am truly sorry I did not attend the meeting tonight...I was so cold my knees wouldn't bend enough to make it up the street.
If I had any idea the "Village Parking Billboard/Public Urinal" was to be discussed, I would have taken a cab.
Last summer when that work of, no art/no taste, was erected, the powers stood back and admired it.
But wait, there were two small trees blocking the view of the billboard. "Just hack them down, Roger, don't bother asking the property owners if they mind, in fact, don't even tell them about it."
So it came to pass, the trees were cut down so all the folks could see the billboard better.
Four days after the fact, the owners were asked by the DPW, for their permission to "trim the trees."

Post Script: They said no and are still waiting for an apology from Mr. Bubba.
Could these be the same people who approved the view-blocking of the park and pavillion by the  hospital's new uglypods?
So, to honor the ABay Chamber of Commerce "2008 Business of the Year", Capt. Visgar's B&B, we put an unnecessary billboard in front of their business, blocking the view of it, and a cluster of the most tastless looking refrigerated meat lockers right behind them.
Does anyone ever take responsibility for their mistakes?

I beg to differ about the sign letting people know about a less expensive parking solution in downtown. does anyone remember what was there before?????? Not very apealing in my opinion. The new sign was discussed at least twice during village board meetings and the owners of the bed and breakfast were consulted. At no time do I remember an objection and the village even went to the trouble to paint the rear of the sign at the request of the owners of the b&b. Remember the village does not own the billboard, Mr Thomson let the vilage put a sign over the existing one. Sounds like dammed if you do and dammed if you don't to me. As I said before, its great to see people take an interest in the affairs of the village, I wonder where you all were the past 7 years, not attending village board meetings, I can tell you that.
There were once four brothers: Everyone, Someone, Anyone and Noone. They had a very important task to do. Everyone was sure that Someone will do it. Anyone could have done it, but Noone did it in the end. Someone was angry because it'd have been Everyone's job. Everyone thought that Anyone could have done it, but Noone realized that Noone will do it in the end. In the end, Everyone was angry at Someone because Noone did what Anyone could've done.
