Along with its fishing the 1000 Islands has some of the best duck hunting that the Atlantic Flyway has to offer. Marshes along the river are plentiful with ducks that decoy readily.

The main species being mallards, black ducks, wood ducks and teal. Later in the season diving ducks such as scaup, goldeneye and redhead, migrate from their summer breeding grounds in northern Canada to the St. Lawrence River.
